Hexplore24 Day 16/366

 


The party commenced their journey hiking through the unforgiving mountains. Their path was perilous as they narrowly evaded a swarm of Armae, poisonous beetle-like creatures that posed a lethal threat. Undeterred, they pressed on, venturing through thickets where they glimpsed the ruins of a strange circular structure, its original hemispheric nature now lost to time. Opting not to investigate further, they continued their trek.


As they approached the same mountains housing the dead volcano and the tumbled-down temple, another swarm of Armae ambushed the party. The horde mercilessly overran Tul Ur Gant, leaving him wounded but miraculously alive. In the chaotic frenzy, Ptormed fell victim to the relentless assault, succumbing to the swarm's attacks.


Shaken but resolute, the remaining members of the party fought fiercely, enduring the onslaught and ultimately prevailing against the swarm. Khem's Somnolence power played a crucial role, rendering half the swarm unconscious. The surviving members, fighting with the ferocity of feral banths, until the last Armae lay dead that their feet.

With no time to spare, the battered party fled to the temple ruins, seeking refuge from the aftermath of the battle. Setting up camp in the shadow of the ancient structure, the atmosphere was somber as the party tended to their wounds and reflected on the loss of Ptormed. The cold night passed mercifully uneventful, allowing the survivors to recover and brace themselves for the challenges that lay ahead in the ancient and mysterious landscapes of Barsoom.

The viral #dungeon23 challenge put forth by Sean McCoy https://seanmccoy.substack.com/p/dungeon23 is coming to an end as of December 31st. For myself and many others it has been apart of our daily lives, one room at a time. It’s gonna feel a little weird on the 1st when that aspect of my morning ritual goes away.  Like I’ve forgotten something, but can’t put a finger on what it was. So, I’ve decided to cobble together a few ideas for a project that will replace #dungeon23. I’m calling it #hexplore24 and I’ll give a “brief" outline of what that’ll entail.  The gist: 1) Exploration of an unknown territory. Grab your favorite hexcrawl generator!! 2) 1:1 time. One actual day = one game day. In other words, there are 366 days and you play one day per day. 3) No mindless “plot following”. There is no regular pre-scripted story. It is a sandbox game. Hrul Marak, Ptormed, Haj Uljat, and the enigmatic Khem journeyed through this formidable terrain, their every step resonating with the echoes of a dying world lost to time. From the walled town of Emtor, their sanctuary amidst the hills, the intrepid party ventured forth, guided by the relentless pursuit of discovery that defines this perilous expedition. With each passing hour, the jagged mountains loomed ever larger, their rocky visages a testament to the unforgiving nature of Barsoom’s landscape.
